What "Job and Equal
Opportunities: knowing for proposing" This project -
started in 1992 by the Equal Opportunities Office of the
Province of Catania - created in order to enhance the
promotion of positive actions within the framework of the
job organisation, making also an action of vulgarisation of
the laws supporting Equal Opportunities towards the women
working at the Province, the majors of the province of
Catania and the students - boys and girls - of last year of
the secondary school, has become a real action, able to be
performed, when it has been agreed with a deliberation by
the Province. How
much - Evaluation of
financial ressources: It has been performed by the
Province.

financial ressources to be used in order to implement the
project are issued by the budget of the
Province

(Who/What): The resources have been used for the printing
of a booklet about laws and also for the realisation of a
seminar for the teachers involved in E.O. Further
financial ressources will be issued by the Province in
order to publish a booklet which will contain the more
qualifying proposals of positive actions presented by the
students.

- The project is
subdivided into a number of phases:

- creation of a
booklet, by the E.O Office, called "from the defence
of rights to the valorisation of diversity";
printing and
distribution of this booklet to the workers of the
Province, to the mayors of the province, to the
teachers involved in E.O., to the students; seminar for
the women working at the Province; seminar for
the teachers involved in E.O.; holding of a
competitive examination for the students for the
creation of compositions about positive
actions; printing of a
booklet containing the most significant proposals made
by the students, and its diffusion to the
istitutions.
Why The idea of planning
this action was initially started from the fact that the
Equal Opportunities Committee noticed that the women working
at the Province had a scarce knowledge of the concepts of
indirect discrimination, equal opportunities and positive
action. So they have considered that the diffusion of the
laws is in fact a positive action. Results
- 'The effectiveness of this project
has been measured by a number of indicators:
-
- the women working for the Province
have had a new perspective on the organisation of their work, discussing
some items which look like neutrals, but being in fact indirect
discriminations;
in many towns of the province
of Catania the Equal Opportunities Committees have been funded,
and many positive actions have been planned;
some teachers have planned
positive actions to be performed within the school where they
work, being supported by the Equal Opportunities Office and sometimes
by the financial support of the Province;
a great number of students
has applied the competitive examination held by the Province;
this action will be able to
create new activities, because the proposals of the students could
be a valid indication for the projectation of new positive actions.
