Recipe n.41   Baby Parking What A "Baby Parking" for the sons of the staff of the Provincia Regionale di Siracusa (Regional District Council of Siracusa). During the summer, when schools are closed, a service of animation is delivered to the sons of the staff of the Provincia Regionale. Boys and girls are engaged in games, training, recreational and educational activities. How much The project is free of cost both for the users and for the promoter. The Provincia Regionale frees the premises (school-rooms and gym), the equipment and the ordinary cleaning and maintenance. The staff is chosen among the "Lavoratori socialmente utili ex art. 23 " (Socially Useful Workers according to the art.23 of the Italian Law) who are already working at the Provincia Regionale with the following professional skills: Social Workers, Animators, Computer Operators. Children are insured against accidents and use their own material (paints, coloured paper, writing-books, toys, cassettes, play-suits etc.)     How This activity is addressed to the sons of the staff, boys and girls of two age brackets: 3-7 years and 8-13 years, for a total number of 50 people in two groups. The project foresees a number of 9 operators working for 20 hours a week. The operators guarantee their presence for 6 hours a day, which is needed for the implementation of the project. They guarantee a shift working with a minimum of five and a maximum of seven people for each shift. 2 co-ordinators are included in the project. The activities are performed from Monday to Friday from 8.00 a.m to 2.00 p.m. Aims Improving the quality of life of the workers; arranging the times and timetables of the town; entertaining boys and girls with socialising activities favouring group attachment through familiarity, common life rules, confrontation and involvement.     Results and Assessment The project was born from a proposal of the Equal Opportunities Committee of the Provincia Regionale di Siracusa, and is strongly supported by Agata Rustica, the chairman of the Equal Opportunities and Social Policies Committee. The project has created a culture of territory animation in an environment which is quite deficient from this point of view. One of the weaknesses of the project is to be found in the premises, situated in a secondary school, which is not adequate to the needs of the younger children.
