OPTIMA: A NEW HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

What

The equality bodies of the Independent Communities take part to this program, promoted by the "Instituto de la Mujer" and by the "Comisiones Obreras" union. Its aim is to support enterprises in promoting positive actions in order to favour insertion, permanence and career progression of women in the business organisations. This program, moreover, aims to trigger a social process of Equal Opportunities promotion. Some enterprises and organisations, as a result, will be changed into models to be followed.

How much

Co-financing bodies are the European Social Fund, through the NOW Community Initiative, and the promoting bodies.
No costs either for the Equality Bodies or for the beneficiary enterprises are scheduled.

How

The programme includes the analysis of roles and Human Resources policies; the elaboration, definition, and the inception of positive action plans in order to optimise the human resources policy; the programming of courses and the realisation of Equal Opportunities training modules addressed to union representatives; the continuation of the action plans realised in the enterprises; the acknowledgement of such a logo as: "Body Contributing To The Promotion Of Equal Opportunities Between Women And Men".

Why

A really successful Human Resources policy should be able to both evaluate its own staff and optimise its own resources.
A company which takes care of its workforce can count on a more satisfying work environment, with a more motivated staff.
A company which want to be competitive and modern must be able to innovate, to face its challenges, and prepare itself for a future where women are getting more and more prominent.
The companies cannot ignore the potential of women in the society as a whole: this potential is shown by the progressive increase of the women's qualification level.

Results

The employers involved in this study have acknowledged the existing discrimination against women as far as the selection, training and career progression processes are concerned.
The women are aware of their own rights and their own capability, while the union representatives, having received E.O. training, are more conscious of their role in the agreement negotiation.
