Identification
of the difficulties met by women in their mainstreaming path
What
Identification of the difficulties met by women in their mainstreaming
path What
Scientific and innovative Research-action conducted over the French national
territory. 5 information centers on women rights took part to the research-action.
The aims of the action were the following: better knowing women's paths,
weighing the effects of the interventions on individual paths and orientations,
knowing women's strategies, finding the obstacles which hamper the women's
access to the new jobs and estimating their incidence on the paths.
This reaserch-action was conduced on 5 rural and reconverting towns: Besançon,
Montauban, Perpignan, Saint-Nazaire and Paris
How
The reaserch was performed by 2 sociologists, in co-operation with the
information centres on women's rights of the East Pyrenees, Doubs, Tarn
et Garonne and Saint-Nazaire.Scientific system :Production of the research

Iter
The objective of this research - carried out within the framework of the
NOW REDA project- was to analyse around 50 women's paths over 5 national
sites: Besançon, Perpignan, Saint-Nazaire, Montauban, Paris, In
practice, the research implied: Interviews performed by the job advisers
to the CIDF interested in the research;Analisys of the occupational areas
(collection of statistical data and first diagnosis) belonging to each
interested CIDF;First evaluation of the reviewed paths (chronological
individuation, identification of the great stages of the paths);Interviewing
women (50 recorded interviews) on the basis of the guide to the interview.Development
of the guide to the interview, collecting 9 issues: the relationship with
school, the relationship with parents (and, more specifically, with the
female representative of the family), the relationship with job and with
the statute of labourers, the relationship with the work place, the relationship
with the placement institutions, the relationship with family life, the
relationship with Bio-social status of women, the relationship with the
labour market and its changes, the relationship with economic resources.
How
much
The allocated budget, with a public and community co-financing, is of
around 700.000 EUROS (Occupazione - NOW)
Results
The reaserch has influenced the daily practice of professional women,
that is :Legitimating a more specific access into the life story of women,
which is often a sad story;Knowing how to listen, getting a high degree
of concentration in order to understand which are the words to be better
developed, knowing how to face painful matters with a clinical attitude
and without avoiding them, knowing how to ask a delicate question at the
right time. Taking the time, playing up to the person's rithm, leaving
moments of silence in order to let the woman reflect and self-listen.Having
a global vision of the difficulties about employment in the space of one
interview only. A better organisation of listening using a number of benchmerks,
a greater elasticity due to a greater control of the main theme (guide
to the interview)A clinical attitude by the adivisers both towards the
conversation and towards the non-verbal aspect of their interviews. The
team work allowed the advisers both to appreciate the national size of
the network and to notice that all CIDFs make the same work all over France. The
reaserch has a positive influence on the partners (ANPE - Employment Bureau),
who showed a great interest towards this work and a serious acknowledgement
of the role of CIDFs within the framework of the social and economical
insertion.
